What an awesome time we just had in the Abacos. The Riesterer and Perkins families and friends joined me in Marsh Harbour for quite the memorable week! They flew in on a Saturday and we started making plans immediately. Sunday our adventuresome week started at Nippers. You know how that goes! Good drinks, a great ocean view, a little souvenir shopping, and of course a lot of people watching. The next morning we headed to Jamie’s Place to enjoy a traditional Abaco style, home cooked breakfast. We spent the rest of the day recovering from the day before and enjoying the company of friends and family. Tuesday we left the dock and headed out for a beautiful day on the water. We made a stop in Hopetown and a little more souvenir shopping was done as we walked around this beautiful town. And of course we had to stop at one of my favorite spots, Cap’n Jack’s, for lunch. It’s always a great time there! After lunch we headed to Sandy Cay for some snorkeling. We saw stingrays, tropical fish, and all sorts of amazing underwater creatures. This underwater adventure had everyone yearning for some more Abaco beauty so I took them over to Tilloo Cay. They walked along the beach, played in the sparkling water, and found helmet conchs, starfish, and seabiscuits. There’s just nothing better than soaking up the sun in this beautiful place. Our fun-filled day ended with drinks and appetizers at Abaco Inn.
The first three days of their vacation were already packed with memories and there was so much more to come. Wednesday the crew wanted to head back to Nippers. They had such a great time Sunday; they just had to enjoy it one more time. Thursday was a big day for the Riesterer and Perkins families. Adam Kellepourey got down on one knee and proposed to Angie Perkins on the beach of Regattas. Of course she said yes! We are just so happy for them and wish them nothing but the best as they begin this new adventure together. All of us celebrated this wonderful occasion with a delicious dinner at Wally’s where we got smashed off of Wally’s Specials– a tropical house drink that is a tasty, tasty treat. Surprisingly enough to me, everyone was going strong the next day and ready to go for our early morning fishing trip. We started out catching a ton of Blue Runners with bait on 8lb test. Let me tell you, the bite was awesome and it was a ton of fun! After that we headed to another spot to do a little Snapper fishing. The bite was a tad slow, but Kerby was able to hook a nice one. Soon after that, we headed in to have an delicious lunch at Cap’n Jack’s while we waited for the tide to change. Our final Snapper spot was on fire, folks. We were reeling them in left and right! The day ended with 8 or 9 Mutton Snapper, a few Yellowtails, and a large variety of other fantastic fish. It’s always a good day when the fish are biting, the cooler’s full, and you head back to the dock with precious memories that you can take with you no matter where you go.
This week has been a blast and I am so thankful to have been able to spend it with such amazing people. I want to give a big thank you to Matt, Cathy, Liz, Garrett, Bob, Liggie, Angie, Adam, Stefanie, John, and Kerby. I have to say, even though I had an awesome time with everyone, it just wasn’t the same without my Emily Riesterer. You better make it on the next trip; we have a lot of catching up to do! And, to all of you who made this week such a memorable one, I hope you take a little piece of this beautiful island with you. Travel back my way soon. Adam and Angie, I think the Abacos might make a perfect honeymoon spot for you guys! ‘Til next time friends …
