Ok folks, let's talk about drag. Always have your drag set before the lines go in the water. Some like to set the drag before they leave the dock, others will set the drag while they're on the water. Set it to your personal preference, but never adjust the drag with a fish on the line. Adjusting the drag in the middle of a fight will only increase the risk of you losing the fish. If the drag is too tight, the line will break or the hook will rip out of the fish. If the line is too loose, the fish will surely shake the hook. If you've got a fish hooked up securely and the drag is set correctly, take your time and let the drag do the work. Remember, friends, a reel is a line retriever not winch.
